When we’re not making short films, we’re writing long ones. So far we have two: a romantic comedy that has achieved moderate success (Semi-finalist in the 2009 Outfest competition; Quarterfinalist in the 2009 BlueCat competition) and a comedy-drama loosely based on real events about 3 people who met and fell in love in China.
We like our scripts. We love our scripts. But now it’s time to move on to our next big writing project.
We have a ton of ideas, but, before we get started, we have to ask ourselves a few questions:
So far the feedback we’ve gotten from competitions that provide coverage or analysis (Bluecat, Outfest, Silver Screenwriting Competition, Slamdance, NYC Midnight) has been pretty positive. The main thing we need to work on is sticking more closely to the traditional movie structure.
While Julie sees this as restrictive, Jessica is embracing it as a challenge. We’re doing our research. We’re listening to the experts. We’re studying good examples. In the end, we’ll work together to improve our skills and create the best script possible.
Cheers to the blank page!
