Got to Getchoo Into My Life: A Kfink Year in Review

Happy birthday to us.

Happy birthday to us.

Happy birthday, little Kfink blog.

Happy Birthday to us!

Snow Bunny.  One year ago (according to our blog, without which we’d have NO RECORD of what we’ve done) we’d just finished shooting.  Jessica was in the process of editing.  We were working with our musical director Jeffrey Bouthiette.  We were picking festivals to submit to.  We were happy.

WHAT DID SNOW BUNNY LEAD TO?

  • Fun Screening for Family & Friends in Chicago.

  • Film Festivals. So far, Snow Bunny has been an official selection of the Queens International Film Festival, EgoFest, and Lakedance Film Festival, where it was nominated for Best Drama.  The movie is still being considered by a handful of other fests, but if you can’t wait for Snow Bunny to show up in your neck of the woods, feel free to buy it or stream it from IndieFlix.

Kfink Crew at Cinekink NYC

  • Fabulous Friendships – Part Deux: Our friendship with Matt blossomed into a love affair with a whole group of NYC/NJ filmmakers and writers, many of whom went to see our short LIBIDOLAND when it played at Cinekink NYC in February. Their attendance at Cinekink resulted in us receiving an award for “Outstanding Viral Achievement,” and now LIBIDOLAND is a part of Cinekink’s national tour. Sweet.

Adam & Jessica

  • Fake Boyfriend. We didn’t get to go to Lakedance, which really bummed us out, but Adam Bronstein contacted us after the fest and told us that he liked our movie, that it was well-received at the fest, and that he wanted to do a movie swap.  We were very flattered, because Adam’s film (My Movie Girl) won several awards at Lakedance, including Best Feature.  We were lucky enough to meet Adam when MMG came to the Lake County Film Fest in March, and we have plans to see him again in July. Any thoughts on what we should wear for the second date?
  • Film Snobbery. As a result of our Twitter conversation with Matt about the highs (and lows) of QIFF, we ended up doing an interview on Film Snobbery Live with Nic Baisley.  Nic subsequently gave us some very helpful advice for our blog.  Now we’re slated to write a column for the Film Snobbery site.

Silly Philly

  • Phil Holbrook. Phil got our jokes about QIFF on Twitter and in the Film Snobbery chatroom.  We clicked and started talking. We watched his hilarious short (HONEST WORK), we submitted our movies to his film festival, and, eventually, we started talking about a feature project that had been knocking around in his brain for a few years.  This project was TILT, and now we’re writing it for (and producing it with) Phil.

A year ago we never could have predicted where we are now. The past year has been filled with great new friendships, exciting new projects, and a whole lot of fun. Any predictions about what April 2011 has in store?

We got our boots on, Bunny…and came to Brainerd!

Maria, we’re particularly partial to the fact that you’re partial to us. And we mean it when we say that we FULLY enjoyed meeting you and can’t wait to do it again.

I obviously only know you both in a small way via twitter. But you are part of the small group on here that I find inspirng. I love the doers in life. Congrats on a great year, and look forward to following your journey for many more.

    cheers

  6. Jessica & Julie says:

David, thank you so much. We’re so impressed with what you’ve done with Mission X, and we especially loved learning a bit more about your next project this week. No pain, no gain, right? Yes, we filmmakers may be crazy, but at least our friends understand us.

All the best to you. Thanks for checking out our little blog!

  7. ShortCinema says:

When you say film swap do you mean you traded DVDs of each other’s film?

  8. Jessica & Julie says:

You got it, Short Cinema. Adam wanted to add SNOW BUNNY to his collection, so he offered to send us a copy of MY MOVIE GIRL. Since then we’ve done this with several other filmmakers, and we’re very proud of our growing indie collection.

  9. You know my crush gets more intense for the two of you all the time. The first time we met I was stuck wearing the same thing for two days straight thanks to some lost luggage. I promise I will be wearing something cleaner and more stylish for our second date. Can’t wait to see you both in la-la-land. Congrats on such a great year and love to you both.

  10. Jessica & Julie says:

Oh, Adam, now we’re blushing. We can’t wait to see you in your clean & stylish digs, though we’d be perfectly happy if you wore the exact same outfit we saw you in last time.

  11. 4D4Films says:

Thanks to your tweeting at EgoFest it was almost like we were able to be there, especially as our two films were being shown. Like David, we only know you a bit through twitter, but you’re definitely a dynamic and inspiring duo. And you have some of the best questions (which to you prefer, etc.) on Facebook! Here’s to an awesome year, can’t wait for Tilt!

  12. Jessica & Julie says:

We aim to please, 4D4. We’re very excited that we will finally get to meet you when we’re out in Seattle.

  13. Róisín says:

Happy Belated Birthday! I must watch Snow Bunny. Looking forward to reading more of your film-making adventures! :)

  14. Jessica & Julie says:

Thanks so much, Roisin! Snow Bunny’s on IndieFlix and might be playing at a couple more festivals this year before she retires. Your interest in the movie (and our adventures) means a lot to us. All the best to you!
