On the Sunny Side of the Country, Part #1 – San Fran

We’re in the middle of our California trip and loving every minute of it. Our reasons for coming our here? Jess was invited to present at a Critical Thinking Conference in Berkeley, and we were invited to come and do an interview about TILT and our other projects on LA Talk Radio’s Film Courage with David Branin and Karen Worden.

We’re gonna tell you all about The Big Interview soon, but let’s get you caught up on the first half of our trip first.

KFINK: THE SAN FRANCISCO TREAT

Some people love traveling. It excites and invigorates them. It’s about adventure and the unknown.   Jessica, however, finds travel to be extremely stressful.  Exhibit A: a picture of her on the morning we left Chicago for Cali:

Jess wants to know: "Where is the F%*%ing bus?!"

I, as usual, was tremendously supportive.

Too sleepy to be stressed

The bus/train ride to O’Hare: successful. Our jaunt to San Francisco: boring, except for my response to an in-flight viewing of the Gerard Butler/Jen Aniston rom-com The Bounty Hunter. My review:

“This movie made me want to kill people. The people who wrote the movie. The people who made the movie. Even the people who installed the little tv screens in the airplane’s overhead compartments.”

Basically, it was two infuriated thumbs down from me. No offense.

Zombies love "The Bounty Hunter"

When we arrived in San Francisco, our friend Brad picked us up and gave us a little tour of hot spots in his old hood.  We had a lot of emotions in our first few hours in San Fran. (NOTE: Yes, we know these aren’t actually emotions. But you’ll have more fun if you play along.)

Our #1 emotion in San Fran: "Where's the coffee?"

Our #2 emotion in San Fran: "Why am I wearing a coat?"

Our #3 emotion in San Fran: "There are a lot of hills here."

Our #4 emotion in San Fran: "The flowers are going to eat us, yo."

One of the stops on our tour: Madison Young’s Femina Potens Gallery.  We only wish she’d been there so we could pretend like we were going to say hello before chickening out.  For real, we would have loved the opportunity to thank her in person for doing our Peep Show interview.

Eventually we made our way over to our hotel, The Claremont, which had one foot in The Shining and one foot in Citizen Kane. I’m not joking.

It looks like spooky twin girls could appear at any moment, right?

While Jess fulfilled her teacher / presenter-y duties…

"Thinking - it's not just for thinkers anymore."

…I filled my time by:

Taking pictures of freaky Berkeley flowers

Pretending to steal freaky things

Taking pictures of freaky light fixtures at the hotel

Taking pictures of food ("Our foggy mountain cheese pairs perfectly with this apricot jam.")

Taking freaky pics at the pool

Doing freaky laundry in freaky laundrymats...okay, it was just a normal laundrymat, but still...

I also did some writing. I caught up on the first 100 TILTtheTown bios, and then Jess updated the TILTtheTown storybook. If you’re already a TILT backer, you’ll want to take a look.  If you’re not, here’s more information about getting on the map and joining the story.

That’s the end of our 1st CA trip update. Check out Part 2 (LA!) to find out what’s up with Jessica’s stache…

A good mustache is hard to find.

…and why where Jess is standing in this pic makes her SO excited!

Jess = excited!

These are awesome, but the reason that I have to comment is that I have pictures before a trip waiting at that exact same bus stop to go out to O’Hare.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any of them online to prove it. But I swear it was Thanksgiving a few years ago. And it was snowing.
