The Girl Rods Series
All of our filmmaking started with Girl Rods, a short film about the difficulty of juggling relationship realities with porn-inspired fantasies. Over the course of eight years or so, we made five Girl Rods films, each more complex in terms of narrative and technique.
Our girls went through a lot over the course of five films. There was a kidnapping by an evil scientist, a gaper, a robot clone, and sock puppets.
Finally, in the summer of 2008, we shot our last Girl Rods film, Prim and Proper. We needed to say good-bye to these characters and these films for a number of reasons. For one, we were done exploring porn fantasy and the way it distorts people’s concepts of sex and self. For another, we couldn’t really show them to anyone. Our friends, who were gracious enough to share their talent and their time, all work real jobs in the real world, and playing a porn star on the side just doesn’t fly in most work places.
So here is a short scene from our last endeavor, Prim and Proper. This is a Guy Maddin-esque dream sequence, in which the robot girl has a nightmare inspired by the passing of her best friend.
